This month, I want to get everyone’s opinions on E3 2009. What were you favourite games, and what announcements made you the most excited? If you have any analysis on the state of the console wars, here is the place to write it down.

I’m very much excited with what I have been seeing from E3 this year. Natal looks like an incredible piece of technology, but I really don’t see it being used in many top quality mainstream games. Almost everything in the gaming world revolves around using or controlling something. ie a gun, sword, character, vehicle, ect. While it eliminates a boundary that no one has thought of completely knocking down, it calls for a complete redefinition of how games are made, and one I don’t think many companies are going to embrace.

I could however see it redefining a lot of things we use in our daily lives. Basically it could, in a sense, make any technological device wireless to use. Ovens, computers, lights, TVs, stereos, ect. That is, if companies would be willing to take it further than a gaming device. If some kind of controller were to be used with it however, I could see it going very far.

Unfortunately, I didn’t see many “WOW!” kind of games for the 360. Another new HALO, a MGS that I think I remember seeing the PS3 logo as well as 360 on the end of the trailer at the Konami press release, and some very nice looking sequels. The new movie, TV, Facebook, and twitter applications look great, but again, I like to focus on the gaming side.

Sony was, imo, the clear leader this year for things to look for. They announced some compatibility with facebook and the like as well, and some new motion controls that look like they need a LOT more work, but the game lineup looks fantastic! I’m not a FPS fan due to me sucking horribly at them, but MAG looks like it could be a huge amount of fun. A new Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted 2 which looks amazing, FFXIV, and Heavy Rain. I also like Mod Kart Racing. Looks like a cross between Little Big Planet and MarioKart. Also some nice little titles for the PSP like Metal Gear: Peacewalker, and Dissidia.

Nintendo, while their presentation was incredibly boring, I think hit it out of the park as well. Mario Galaxy 2, New SMBWii, Metroid the other M, The Conduit, Deadspace, and Red Steel 2 all look like they will be great games. Depending on how good Wii Motion Plus is, it might be even better or as good as Sony’s motion control system looks. Vitality looks… not so good. Interesting idea, but I don’t see it going beyond some small WiiWare titles. I personally am very excited for GoldenSun DS as well. Big fan of GS, and very glad it’s back after such a long time.

So, as far as games go, Nintendo and Sony have some great games, but Microsoft was a bit lacking. Technology wise, Microsoft showed some incredible stuff, Sony had some interesting things, and Nintendo pretty much had nothing to show off.

All i know is it’s going to be another great year to be a gamer.

Metroid: The other M looks like it could be a very good game in terms of play style, especially if it’s anything like Ninja Gaiden (it looks like it). But Team Ninja and plots have never ever combined well, so I hope Nintendo pulls through on that front.
